Lenore Raphael : Biography
Lenore Raphael is regarded as a top pianist on the contemporary Jazz scene. She thrills audiences with her fluency and flights of improvisation. A winner of BET on Jazz, she has performed in major jazz clubs, such as Birdland, The Village Gate, Condon's, and appeared in such major jazz festivals as The Cape May Festival and on the S.S. Norway Floating Jazz Festival. Jazz critics have at times compared her to Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans and even Thelonious Monk, but with all these influences, Lenore has her own voice. Her latest CD, Reflections, is garnering rave reviews from noted jazz critics, jazz stations, and jazz fans.

A child prodigy at the piano, Lenore began playing by ear at the age of three, and was performing in classical concerts by age five. She attended the High School of Music and Art in New York City, and began nurturing her jazz interests by "playing along" with albums of the masters, Oscar Peterson, Art Tatum and Thelonious Monk. A music major at NYU, she earned a degree in music education. With a huge number of private students, she devised methods of teaching jazz improvisation. This led to her first series of books and tapes published by Hansen House Music, called "Jazz Master Class."
